Over the past few weeks I've been finishing a briefing on the state of BIM in 2026 — where the market actually stands, which positions are defensible, and what to watch over the next 18 months. It's aimed at anyone who needs to read this market clearly: founders and investors in AEC tech, but also digital leaders and senior practitioners making software decisions for their firms.

One section covers competitive moats in detail — where they're holding, where they're weakening, and what the maturing open-source stack is doing to products that assumed it wouldn't catch up. It's the section that generates the most conversation when I talk through it, so I've pulled it out as a free chapter.

If that's useful to you, you can download it here.

If you're working through what any of this means for your product or practice, I'm always up for the conversation.
